I do love a bit of audio. This one, narrated by the superb Philip Stevens, is a brilliantly atmospheric retelling of one of Rome's greatest defeats: Cannae.

Told from all sides, from the generals to the foot soldiers, we are guided through the blistering hot day, thrust into the centre of the action, where the blood flows and the slaughter is greatest.

The pace is relentless, the characters well formed (and short lived) it is a brutal, epic, blood thirsty ride that I devoured in two days.
