No one does fantasy quite like Joe Abercrombie.
His stories are so character based. It is not the plot that drives these books, though it is certainly thick enough, but the sheer strength of the characters he has created. He has a knack for building floored people, but people you love and root for throughout the story.
There are no real good guys and bad guys, for you can well understand the motivations of people on both sides, can relate to their journey, understand their arc.
His style of writing is effortless, the words flow together, and completely in sync with the POV character. Already cannot wait for the conclusion of this trilogy!
